Over the past three days the workers of 350.org have been gathering all the pictures, videos, and letters that came from October 24th and are making packets to deliver to World Leaders in Barcelona and the United Nations this week. These packets will show them that 350 is the most important number to date and that millions of people across the globe know this as a fact.

The Green Hearts Event was a total success despite the rain. In fact the rain would prove to be a even greater factor in the Battles for Climate Change because it shows Political Powers and World Leaders that no matter what conditions we face we will still stand and fight for what we believe in. The rain did not stop us from fighting, or in this case marching, for 350, a good Climate Treaty, and a Brighter, Sustainable Future.

The Event Started with Mike Palmieri speaking to the participants and getting them ready for our march to Foley Field. Everyone Marching was chanting 350 and making a lot of noise attracting the passers by on foot and in their cars. Drivers were beeping their horns for 350 and the Green Hearts were also getting people involved who were passing by. After we got back to the Campus we dried off, ate some pizza, and listened to our Guest Speakers, Gray Russell, Jane Califf, and Barbara Conover.

All in all in was an amazing event that not only put 350 in the minds of people of the community but it also put the Green Hearts Movement on the Map at Bloomfield College and made many of the Faculty and Administrators of the College want to listen to our ideas of taking a more sustainable initiative at Bloomfield College.

Oct 24th Less Than a Week Away

With Saturday coming up fast the Green Hearts are preparing every facet of their October 24th Event from the Food to the Fun and everything in between. This weekend several Green Hearts worked on making signs, posters, and banners for the March to Foley Field. Meanwhile other Green Hearts are working behind the scenes lining up things like give-a-way's, food, guest speakers, and side events being held on Saturday. The Green Hearts also attended Bloomfield College's Deacon Fest this past Saturday where several Green Hearts spread the word about 350, the science behind it, and what you can do to make a difference. Some members got a list of students who will be attending the Event and others got more students promising to come out. This week the Green Hearts will be working non-stop planning for the event and also spreading the word about it making sure everyone will be attending. As of now 350.org has over 3,000 Actions taking place on this day and it looks to be one of the biggest days devoted to Climate Change ever. It's exciting to know that The Green Hearts and Bloomfield College will be in the middle of it all.

October 24th Update

This is our weekly update of our progress with getting our Day of Climate Action Event all worked out. So things are looking great and since our last update we have gotten many donations of food, give aways, and even in some cases money. We also have security squared away and are now working on getting all the events planned for the event to run smoothly and without any problems. We will be holding a meeting amongst all Members of The Green Hearts Environmental Movement, where we will be delegating some responsibilities for the event, teaching new members how to spread the word, and even some fun and games. Some of the games include relay races and things like that. Other fun includes side walk chalking some ads about our event and even going door to door to get Bloomfield Locals and also students on Campus to come out to our event. We have 16 days left and we all feel very prepared and ready for that day to come. By next week we will have many tasks taken care of and also more to do. We will be sure to keep everyone informed.

The Green Hearts are Guest Speakers at Bloomfield College Convocation 2009

So the Bloomfield College Convocation of 2009 was a brilliant success not only for the Green Hearts Environmental Movement but also for the entire community of Bloomfield College, from Faculty, to Board Members, but most importantly the Students. This was actually the first ever Convocation Ceremony where the guest speakers were students. And the entire focus was Studying Abroad and was appropriately named "Bloomfield College:Broadening Horizons" Convocation 2009. Our guest speakers ranged from students who went to Korea for our "East Meets West Program", Rome for a "Semester Abroad Program", and of course Turkey where the Green Hearts Movement presented the Climate Advocacy Institute. Unlike the other speakers the Green Hearts decided to do something unique and something was another first for Bloomfield College's Convocation Ceremony. They acted out a short skit, where the Green Hearts were guests on a local talk show hosted by CAI '09 facilitator Daniel Cody. The Bob White Show invited the Green Hearts to speak about their trip to Turkey, the inspirations, and knowledge they attained along the way, and also what they are doing now since it has affected their lives in such an enormous way. They spoke about their newly formed Environmental Group on Campus and what events will be held in the upcoming month. It was great to see everyone in the audience laughing and having a great time while the Green Hearts were performing their skit. They ended with a few words from Green Hearts President Michael Palmieiri and then Treasurer Marta Babyak introduced "It's Our Future" the captivating video that many of the Climate Advocacy Institute Participants worked on. It left everyone speechless and after closing out the ceremony the Green Hearts were introduced to many opportunities and support for their October 24th 350.org Event. It was a great day full of fun but most of all impact. The Green Hearts left the audience which was a good majority of students aware and ready to take action.

In Other News

The Green Hearts will be speaking during Bloomfield College's Convocation Ceremony today at Van Fossan Theatre at 2:15 p.m. They will talking about their experiences in Turkey at the Climate Advocacy Institute. They will be presenting for Open Society Institute and Bloomfield College's PBI Grant, encouraging student's like them to travel and study abroad so hopefully new students of Bloomfield College will be as enlightened as the Green Hearts have been during the past few months. The Green Hearts will be performing a skit that re-caps their trip and will also inform guests to Convocation of upcoming events hosted by the Green Hearts being held at the College.
In Other News, the Green Hearts have been working hard getting things in order for October 24th and their Day of Climate Action. They have been recognized as an Official Group and will be holding their first Official Meeting on Thursday, upstairs in the Student Center Room 4 at 2 p.m. Here they will be discussing upcoming events but most of all October 24th and what must be done to allow for a smooth action.

Along with various supporters from the Community, we have been working closely with Greener Bloomfield and Essex County Greens. They have lent the Green Hearts and amazing amount of support and help throughout these first two months of our operation. The Essex Greens rally, originally planned for October 24th has been pushed back due to time constraints. This means more Greens will be attending our event and we could not be happier.

The Green Hearts Rally in New York City

With Climate Week NYC in full effect The Green Hearts Movement joined together with 350.org, Greenpeace, and several Climate Activists this morning to raise awareness about the number 350 and it's importance. Our goal was to catch delegates on their way into the United Nations Headquarters and let them know that 350 is a number worth considering with COP15 only 75 days away. We brought our banner and our friends from 350.org also gave out placards, stickers, and informational cards. We had several people asking us what 350 was, some of us were tested by a UNEP New Media Correspondent, and others got to speak to delegates and even make an impact by giving out stickers to passerby's. We also had some delegates from both small island nations and other smaller nations giving us thumbs up and showing a lot of enthusiasm about our cause. At one point a NYC Police Officer asked us "What is 350?" After telling him, I went on and told him our current level of 390, he replied, "Is that a good thing?". Mike and Nick set him straight and he told us "I appreciate your devotion, and keep up the good work!" After that Phil took a picture of the group, we disassembled, and went our separate ways but this was a great day filled with an active solution in stopping climate change. With the theme of Our World Running Out of Time with this Climate Crisis, we cannot take any small steps anymore. Actions such as this one, although small in number was big in Impact and more actions like this and creative actions like this will really make our World Leaders think about COP15 and what they have to do to stop get our World on the right path to a Better Future. Here is a Great Picture of us in Action with Delegates and Media passing by.

The Green Hearts are Kicking Off Climate Week NYC

For those of you who don't know, The Green Hearts Environmental Movement will be kicking off Climate Week NYC with The Age of Stupid tonight, and a Rally tomorrow. The Age of Stupid is a docu-drama that takes place in the year 2055 and shows us what will happen if we keep doing what we are doing when it comes to carbon emissions and overall care for our planet. We met a bunch of great people from the community and surrounding towns. All of which were very interested about our Global Day of Climate Action and also The Green Hearts Movement. We met several people who want to either speak to people they know about our day of action, and also have us speak about our movement and 350 as well. We even had a group of kids ask "What is 350?" and Mike Palmieri told them all about it. We got a lot of signatures for our October 24th Event and we also got a lot of people to sign the Essex Greens and Sierra Club's Stop Mountain Top Removal Petition for ILoveMountains.org. We were painting faces, spreading the word about 350, and all in all having a great time. Thanks to everyone who came out to see what we are all about, also thanks to the Green Hearts who were working at our Table, but most of all thanks to the folks at Greener Bloomfield for giving us the opportunity to shed our message to the community and surrounding towns of Bloomfield.
Thanks
From The Green Hearts Movement

Green Hearts First Official Meeting is a Great Success

You heard it here, we had an amazing turn out with a total of 11 students signing up to be in our group. They were all very enthusiastic about The Movement and some have even planned to join us for some of our upcoming events we are holding this week. We all presented the Group, our Cause, and the Actions we plan on taking and they all seemed to be on board and ready to be apart of the team. Some will even be volunteering with us this weekend at Bloomfield's Harvest Fest. Others may be joining us at The Age of Stupid Global Screening, and many of them will be joining us on September 22nd as we Rally Outside the United Nations. We also brought the "It's Our Future" Banner that we will be bringing to the United Nations and all our new members put their hand prints on the banner to add something that will have very good impact. Some of the new members mixed it up by throwing the Roca-Fella Records Sign on there and another one made baby footprints with her hand. It was truly inspiring and all of the founders of the group felt really good afterward. We all felt very accomplished and ready for the real task at hand. Getting Active! Now it's time and we are mobilizing fast.

First Official Green Hearts Meeting is on September 17th

That's right our first Official Meeting that is welcome to new members will be held in the Student Center Upstairs in SC4 at 2 p.m. There you will find out, who we are, what we do, and all the events we plan on hosting this semester. Organizations like 350.org, TckTckTck, Avaaz, and GreenPeace will be holding events, rallies, and flash mobs throughout the city to make World Leaders realize the importance of Strong Climate Action. The Green Hearts Environmental Movement will be rallying on Tuesday September 22nd, the day of a High Level Climate Summit at the United Nations. We will be outside the UN while world leaders make their way to the summit, we will be holding a banner that says It's Our Future, Ken Wilson, Green Hearts True Coordinator also plans on taking the banner to a local day care center to have them contribute artwork to our banner to really let our World Leaders know, who's future it really is. Barack Obama will be speaking there and several leaders from around the globe will be gearing up for the Conferences in Copenhagen this December. The Summit Starts at 9 a.m. and If we want to get a good visible spot, where people will see our banner we may have to go in as early as 6 a.m. If you want to join the Green Hearts Email us at bcgreenheartsmovement@gmail.com.

Here is a picture of the Banner Mike and Nick worked on Today, still awaiting art from Kids Corner but still looking good.

The Age of Stupid-The Green Hearts Kicking Off Climate Week NYC

The Green Hearts Environmental Movement will be Kicking off Climate Week NYC properly by attending The Age of Stupid Global Screening on September 21st at 7:30 p.m. They are inviting Everyone to Join them at the Clifton Commons right off of Rt3. We have been meeting with the Greens because they too are planning an action on October 24th. Recently a "Clean Coal" Plant Development Idea has been in the works for the town of Linden and The Essex County Greens want to have a protest and a possible walk to Linden's Town Hall. The Green Hearts will be assisting them with raising awareness on the local level, and also help coordinate some aspects of it. We plan on making this event in the morning so both groups can attend each event. When more develops on the protest and also on the Coal Plant we will be sure to update the blog.

On September 10th The Green Hearts Environmental Movement's President and Vice President went before Bloomfield College Student Government to Appeal our Group and become an Official Club. There they learned all the requirements of a College Group and also gained several supporters from other groups throughout the campus. We will go before the BCSG once more to either be approved or denied. That meeting is on September 24th. Green Hearts Blog will keep you updated.

The Green Hearts also met with Jill Alexander who handles everything press related at Bloomfield College. Everyone who went to Turkey was there and we all spoke about the trip and our experiences, and also what we brought back from it. On the 18th of September we will be doing something similar at Academic Affairs, for those to follow up how our experiences were due to the grants received in the past academic year.

October 24th Updates-The Fliers are In

Hey Guys
This is a weekly update we will be posting about our Global Day of Climate Action. Each week you will get updated with information about the event and how things are going for us while we coordinate it.

This week we have set a lot of things up and have made several of these plans concrete.
After speaking with several of our resources we have taken care of basic planning on campus, some refreshments, and the second portion of the day including the walk.

So as of now we will be holding the event at Bloomfield College, On the Green, from there we will have a guest speaker, then we will be walking to Foley Field, make a shape of a 350, and walk on Broad St back to the Campus. Back on the Green we will eat, see a presentation from Wild Bill Bailout, and 350 letters concerning Climate Change will be given to Congressman Bill Pascrell.

We have some other things in the works along with finalizing Congressman Pascrell's attendance, they are to also invite Bike Montclair, a bike club from the town will be invited to bike into our event. We are also working on getting a Fire Truck for the Walk and a Cherry Picker for the 350 Photo.

So far Everything is running smoothly we have tons of other events coming up so it will be a busy two months but everyone here is ready for the task.

The Green Hearts at Bloomfield's Community Day

This Saturday The Green Hearts Environmental Movement went to Bloomfield's Community Day at the New Light Baptist Church. The Green Hearts President Mike Palmieri, True Coordinator Ken Wilson, and Student Adviser Nick Silvestri were there to not only represent The Green Hearts Movement but also Bloomfield College. We met several High School Students and were there to give them personal experiences and advice about their academic career. We met people from the community and spread the word about our Movement and Our Global Day of Action that we are hosting. There we found a table with a great product that was right up our green ally. The Kvar Energy Saver is sold in several different levels but used in the home to reduce the amount of energy we use and waste.
You can learn more about Certified Energy Consultants here:
Certified Energy Consultants Energy "Independence Starts Here"
They are a great company who does more than just homes, they have worked on several bigger infrastructures and make businesses more sustainable everyday.
We also spoke with the Mayor of Bloomfield and also gained his support for our event. All in all it was a great day, with great food, entertainment, and great people. It may have been raining but that didn't stop anyone from having a good time.

The Green Hearts Environmental Movements First Official Blog

Hey and Welcome to the Green Hearts Environmental Movements First Official Blog.
Since we began this group in late August we have been working non-stop working towards our goal of holding an amazing event on October 24th at Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, New Jersey. We have also been working with several other non-profit groups of North Jersey such as Greener Bloomfield, Essex County Greens, Green Party NJ, and the Sierra Club.
We have been spreading the word of not only our movement but also our friends at 350.org and IndyACT, an activist group from Beirut, Lebanon. We will be holding several upcoming events leading up to our October 24th "On The Green at Bloomfield College" 350 event which includes a walk throughout the town of Bloomfield and a flash mob of 350 participants forming the shape of the 350.org logo on Foley Field. All these things are in the process of being completed so our event goes off without a hitch.
In addition to our event we have also inspired some of our friends from Essex County Greens who are planning a protest of the Linden Coal Plant which will be sequestering Carbon 70 miles out to the Atlantic Ocean right off our New Jersey Shores. We are working on raising awareness amongst the Linden Locals to make this protest something to truly remember.
In other news we will be going before the Bloomfield College Student Government tomorrow to see if we will be recognized as an official club by the school. If not we still plan to carry out our events but we hope to gain the support of Bloomfield College and all their students. We will also be holding our first Official Meeting on September 17th, where new members can meet us and see exactly what we are about.
September 19th and 20th is the Bloomfield Harvest Fair and we will have our own table and will be helping Greener Bloomfield in handing out flyers, spreading the word about Project Porchlight, and also spreading the word about our group and our October 24th event as well.
On September 21st to properly kick off the United Nations Climate Week NYC, we will be attending the premier of The Age of Stupid, a docu-drama about Climate Change and what we can do now to make a difference for tomorrow. Some of us will also be in New York City that day to help a friend and co-founder of 350.org take part in a huge mobile flash mob called A Global Climate Wake Up Call where we will be contacting World Leaders by phone and telling them that we need to reach a solid and bold agreement on Climate Change this December in Copenhagen's COP15 Meetings.
The following day many of the members will be going back into the city to rally outside the United Nations while a High Level Climate Change Summit takes place, in which world leaders will be discussing COP15 and exactly what they need to do to reach a good agreement that will benefit the entire globe. We will have banners, posters, and signs stressing to these World Leaders the importance of acting now before it's too late.
More News Coming Soon.......
